Go Cross-country Skiing at Yellowstone National Park

The Canyon Area of Yellowstone National Park is a fantastic place for a cross-country skiing adventure. Enjoy views of frozen Cascade Lake while skiing through open meadows and under lodgepole pine trees. While most of the trails in the Canyon Area are about one to two miles long, cross-country skiers can find longer courses in the Mammoth Hot Springs area, where they can enjoy stunning views of Swan Lake Flats, the Gardner Canyon, and the Gallatin Mountains. Do not be surprised if you ski next to bison, moose or other wildlife. Vendors at this park also offer snowcoach rides in vehicles with unique tread designed to go off-roading through the snow. The only option is Mammoth Campground for wintertime RV national park campgrounds at Yellowstone.

Equipment is available to rent. The Upper Pines, Camp 4, Hodgdon Meadows and Wawona RV campgrounds are open in the winter.

Head Out Snowshoeing at Rocky Mountain National Park

While you can go cross-country skiing and sledding at Rocky Mountain National Park, consider going on a guided snow hike with a park ranger. These walks often fill up fast, so get your national parks RV reservations ahead of time. They are offered from mid-January through mid-March. Some hikes take place near Estes Park while others happen near Grand Lake. The park ranger teaches a short course on hiking in the snow before you set off to see various sites. The area along Highway 34 is also a prime spot for a winter drive, where you may see bighorn sheep, coyotes, elk and mule deer. RV national park campgrounds open in the winter at this location, including Longs Peak Campground and parts of Moraine Park and Timber Creek campgrounds.

National Park RV Rental

RV campgrounds at these national parks may fill up quickly, so rent an RV from Road Bear RV and make your national park RV reservation as far ahead of time as possible. It is even cheaper if you use a national park pass.
